چکیده

Quality programs that focus on continuous improvement are vital in providing incremental improvement of processes, products, and services in an existing technological paradigm. These programs view quality as being measurable in some quantitative way. Breakthrough improvement that leads to development of new paradigms requires thinking of quality in a different way. The transcendent view of quality is necessary for development of paradigm-shifting technologies. Plato’s divided line represents four stages of awareness. The understanding stage is necessary for effective continuous improvement but inadequate for paradigmshifting improvement. That requires Plato’s insight stage of awareness. Drawing from Plato’s divided line model, this article develops the approach to quality that is best suited for developing radical innovations.

Update: brain and pituitary hormones of lampreys.

Lampreys and hagfish of the class Agnatha are of particular importance in understanding endocrinological relationships since they represent the oldest lineages of extant vertebrates which evolved over 550 million years ago. This review briefly summarizes the latest findings on the reproductive endocrinology of the sea lampreys. Since the First International Symposium of Fish Endocrinology in 19...

A Theoretical Derivation of Relationships between Forecast Errors

This paper describes a theoretical study of forecast errors. First, we formally define forecast errors with different rationales, derive several relationships among them, and prove a heuristic formula proposed by Mark Sower.1 Then we study the effects of a systematic bias on the forecast errors. Finally, we extend our study to the situations where correlations across product demands and time ef...

Evolution of the role of GnRH in animal (Metazoan) biology.

Gonadotropin releasing-hormone (GnRH) (also called luteinizing hormone-releasing-hormone (LHRH)) is the key hypothalamic neurohormone that is important in the control of reproduction for all vertebrates. Released from the hypothalamus, the GnRH decapeptide travels via the median eminence (neurohemal portal system) in most vertebrates to the pituitary where it binds to specific receptors on the ...

Polygenic expression of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) in human?

A non-mammalian lamprey-like gonadotropin-releasing hormone (lGnRH) has been detected in human hypothalami using a combination of immunocytochemistry, high performance liquid chromatography and radioimmunoassay. The hypothalamic distribution of immunopositive lGnRH neurons is similar to that observed for those containing the mammalian gonadotropin-releasing hormone (mGnRH), indicating a possibl...
